3 weeks post op--- using a straw? Eating wonton wrappers?

Recommended Posts

Using a straw is likely to fill your sleeve with air. Can't fit in your liquids/foods plus it may cause discomfort and/or pain from the air too. Wonton wrappers may get stuck in your sleeve at this point. I ate just part of one a day or so ago and it gave me a bad belly ache until it digested and moved on out plus I did experience some dumping from the high carbs/fat. It was half of an egg roll. I'm 34 days post op.

My doctor lifts the straw restriction at two weeks for what it's worth. He said as long as it's not causing added discomfort from gas, use it as I please. It never gave me gas, and I was very happy to have my straw back! As for the wonton wrappers...I'm sure they're not on your plan yet. I'm trying to remember my own plan, and I think at four weeks I could have wraps...maybe...but that was still at least four weeks. I would run it by your nut. If you've been tolerating other foods, they may allow it. I do remember my nut telling me my stomach will have an easier time with wraps than breads. But again, ask your nut.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
