I am 5 days post op, and I am still having some pain in my abdomen, and pressure between my shoulder blades. When I do sip my fluids, I feel like it gets stuck, and hurts. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I'm 5 days post op too!!!! Sounds like gas with the pressure. Have you tried gas x strips? They've been a saver for me!!

I haven't had issues with the stick feeling, but the temperature of the liquid makes a difference for me. Room temp seems to work best for me.

I am 7 days out and still in pain, but only where the stitch is! If I take anything bigger than a sip I have pain, and then will burp... lovely :)

Coughing is the worst pain for me

I feel like I swallow gallons of air every time I take a sip, bc its just that much gas in my chest and esophagus area, but then again everything i drink is ice cold. Im going to try room temperature to see how that goes down. I sleeved 2/15

I had that post-op, gasX strips helped a lot and I found I handled iced or warm tea better then Water. It went away for me about 2 weeks post-op where I could drink without a need to burp or pain. For some reason plain water which I never had an issue with was a no go for me until just this last week (7weeks post op now).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
