Is hair loss a given?

Wow--that is the best NSV ever--reduction/elimination of back pain! Terrific!

Your experience with ESI is outrageous. Mine are done under fluoro and he hits it the first time. Since the steroids take a few days to kick in, it is common to also add a short-acting local anesthetic so you are pain-free immediately.

I hope you never need one again! It must be nice to have youth on your side, but really I'm just happy that they help. A lot of people don't respond to ESI.

Well, the first time I did it-- didn't work (injections).

2nd time, they did a 'drip'? I honestly am not 100% positive what they were doing there. I had bulging disks, and scoliosis. So all the muscles are mad around there. I did muscle relaxers for a while to try to loosen the muscles so the disks would correct themselves, but it didn't work.

So anyway, overall I hated this clinic, they jerked me around, lied to me, etc.. and when you're in excruciating pain, that's the last thing you want. But they never marked in my charts that injections don't work, it has to be this 'drip'.. he explained that they put the tube in and let it go or.. something, I don't really remember now. Everytime I went to fix the pain when they wore off, they did injections.. then I had to go back to get the 'drip'.

There's no other pain clinics around here that did this procedure so I stuck with them. They actually called a couple weeks ago saying I missed my appointment. I finally gave them my 2 cents about the lies they told (long story). They took me off their books.. then a nurse called a week later to calm me down with them, and I told her I wouldn't ever use them again.

IF I ever needed something like that again, they opened a new pain clinic in the city I actually live in (other one is 1 city over that I work in) so I'd go there.

But.. I had crippling back pain until about June of this year (2 months post op). Apparently about 30lbs is all I needed to lose to get rid of the pain!

I was pretty excited in the shower this morning. I noticed a definite decrease in the amount of hair that came out. I will be at 10 months soon, and my dr. said it stopped at 9 months. I believe it was WasABubble butt that said it stopped at 10 months.

All I know is I hope that it is decreasing. I have lost about 1/2 of my hair. Luckily, I had very thick hair. My big fear now is that it's going to come back gray.

My hair has been thinning in the bang area for about the last 2-3 years (pre-band). I was very nervous about getting banded, as I did not wanna lose anymore. Happily, I can report that my hair is growing back after banding, not falling out. I believe this is because I am finally taking care of myself and making sure that I get all the Vitamins, etc that I need. I take 4 chewable optisource vitamins from Walgreens daily. I also make sure I get enough Protein. Before banding I just ate anything and everything. I was not getting the proper nutrition at all. I am so excited that my thinning bangs are a thing of the past. Just one more positive thing the band did for me! You gotta love that band!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
