Is hair loss a given?

Recommended Posts

I haven't tried it but I know people who have and they say it made no difference.

I was banded July 23 and had hair loss that started one week prior to the surgery. I was getting more than enough Protein so I can't blame that. Its now three months and I'm still experiencing a large amount of Hair loss. I see another Doctor on Friday to find out if there is anything they can do to help.

But during my search I've found that just a few have hair loss directly related to the band.

Good Luck!

I think it depends. Reactions to weight loss and anesthia and so forth. I lost a bunch of hair. I shaved my head-- the lovely buzz cut didn't make me look lovely but it made the Hair loss easier for me to deal with. Then it stopped falling out. Then it started growing back. Now it is growing at its normal rate-- for me this is between 3/4 inch to 1inch a month. At the moment my hair likes to stand straight up. It doesn't do flat. So I got some gel and blue hair mascara and its been fun! But of course I had two surgiers in six weeks.

OMG! I don't think I could shave my head! I joke about it... and one of my best friends shaves hers... but I'm just too vain. And I think I have a weird shaped head. Lol.

Kudos to you!

You'll hear people say it's the anesthesia.... there may be some truth to that; however, anyone losing weight WITHOUT surgery can have hair loss. - no anesthesia there.

Went on the low carb diet a few years back and half my hair fell out by 6 months... dropped 70 pounds, too. But it all grew back, the weight came back.

It's all about nutrition, or lack thereof. Now that I'm banded, my hair is coming out again but slower this time...and wouldn't you know...my weight loss is slower.

I took a lot of Vitamins and super B complex, Biotin, everything anyone suggested. I am almost at 10 months and my hair is still falling out.

Do you think the sublingual B makes a difference? I should get some of that because it's so hard to take pills now.

I dunno about the B Vitamins, I had all my levels checked and they are all well within normal. Could a supplement help even though I take B complex, and all my labs are already normal?

Nope, I tried that too. Made no difference.

My mom use to be a nurse, and I mentioned the anesthesia theory. She said that can't be true, because people have surgeries all the time without their hair falling out.

Then I realized, she's right. I had surgery before with no Hair loss, she has had surgeries with no hair loss.

ON THE OTHER HAND.. I still want to believe this, since my hair didn't grow back from Atkins.. ever since Atkins I have been getting the epideral things for my back.. and they put me to sleep for this. So every 6 months I was going under anesthesia. So maybe, just maybe.. that's why my hair thinned out and never grew back. I'm done with those now since losing some weight, and since this revision surgery.. maybe it'll finally have a chance to grow back in a year! ;)

Not everyone having surgery with anesthesia loses hair just like not every weight loss person loses hair. It happens in some and not others. Anesthesiologists claims it usually happens at about 4 months after surgery if it is going to happen.

Okay, I just noticed about 3 weeks ago that I am losing hair. No biggie for me because I have enough on my head for two people, but it was a unique thing to get tangled in my own hair in the shower. Hmmmm.

This is off-topic but I'm curious. Laura, why did you have general anesthesia for epidural steroid injections? I have them every 3 months. The procedure is performed by an anesthesiologist, but I've always been wide-awake.

Well, I had the option of getting them when I live in New Mexico, but I freaked out at the thought (they did not do it under anesthesia). When I moved back to Alabama my brother (who also has back problems) was getting back injections at a pain clinic that does it all under anesthesia. I don't know why, exactly.. but that was the only way I was willing to do it.

When I woke up, I had injection sites all in my butt CRACK, and along my spine and I would have freaked out if I was awake for all that. Not to mention the first 24 hours after the injections I was in excruciating pain.

So.. dunno why, they just did

I had my last set of injections March this year, Banded April of this year.. and my back pains are gone enough I do not intend to get anymore!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
