Angie68 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Did all of you lose some hair after getting the band? If so, how bad is it? I already have thin hair so I am not looking forward to losing any at all.

sherilynn 1 Posted September 27, 2007 I've had my band since January and lost about 40 lbs. I've noticed no hair loss at all. Ditto. I started out with a thicker head of hair/alot of hair. I freaked at the thought of loosing it. I started Biotin months before my surgery. I still take it; and I make sure to get in all my Protein. Good luck. kacee 3 Posted September 27, 2007 Nope. No Hair loss at all.
GayleTX 1 Posted September 27, 2007 Sometimes it's the anesthesia that causes a little Hair loss. However, as a bandster you will not have the malabsorption issues that people with Gastric Bypass have. Therefore.....if you will be sure to get in your 80-100 grams/protein per day (forever!) and take your Multivitamins you should not have any serious fallout (pun intended!). In fact, my hair is thicker than it has ever been - I was getting very little Protein before wls and taking many kinds of medication. Now I'm off all meds, get a healthy diet and I have lots of hair (even have hair some places I didn't before but we won't go into that!!:clap2:) and good nails and skins. Daisalana 33 Posted September 27, 2007 I take my Vitamins and Protein like a good girl.. Banded in April, and about 3 weeks ago I started noticing my hair falling out a lot. My hair was already thinned out from when I did Atkins (I don't know why). I just use a lot of hair products to make my hair 'big'. I heard it will grow back though, so my fingers are crossed. anonemouse 1 Posted September 27, 2007 Yeah, I've noticed some Hair loss. I'm hoping it will stop soon. But I've experienced hair loss before, for no good reason. Maybe it's stress that does it. Between having surgery and trying to get my thesis done and preparing to take my comprehensive exams, I've been under a LOT of stress lately.
dgarrett 0 Posted September 27, 2007 Nope, no Hair loss. I've been banded 13 mos now and down 75 lbs. w/ no hair loss whatsoever and my hair is thin too so I am glad that no more came out.
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted September 27, 2007 Yep, I lost hair. About 50%. Thankfully I had a bunch to begin with! From an unscientific and small poll here on LBT it showed about 50% lose hair. We all kept Protein up, some took Biotin, some increased Protein to unnecessary levels, nothing mattered. Either you will or you won't. But it does grow back. Lynn_Marie 0 Posted October 1, 2007 I am 7 weeks post op and have just started noticing some Hair loss when I comb my hair. Luckily I have lots of it! When I was in my teens and 20's and wore it long, long, long I used to see wads of it on the drain every time I washed it. Then for years, nothing. So we'll see. Daisalana 33 Posted October 1, 2007 When does it grow back Wasa? I got little hair bunnies living in my bathroom.. I'm too sad to get rid of them!
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted October 1, 2007 When does it grow back Wasa? I got little hair bunnies living in my bathroom.. I'm too sad to get rid of them! It's different for everyone. Most seem to say between months 4-8 but one baritric surgeon wrote an article recently and he said 2-11 months. Mine started at 4 months and JUST ended the day I cut my hair. It couldn't be coincidental, that would be too much of a coincidence. But I used to have really long hair and a ton of it. I lost about 50% of it and it was still falling out by the day. It clogged my shower drain every single day. It was horrible. Finally I got it cut to just below my shoulders and the Hair loss came to a dead stop. I don't know why, I just know that it did. That was less than a month ago.
Daisalana 33 Posted October 1, 2007 Hm.. My hair was so thick growing up, I could barely get a pony-tail holder around it once. Then I did Atkins and lost a LOT LOT LOT of hair.. it never did grow back Now my hair is about the size of a quarter when pulled into a pony-tail. A few weeks ago I noticed my hair falling out again, and I'm just trying to tough it out. I'm convinced it will grow back this time.. I don't have genetics for thin hair, and my siblings still have their crazy thick hair.. I don't know why I lost it during Atkins.
