Low BMI sleevers... results?

Well, I'm 6 day post op and I only thought I knew what hunger was. I feel like I am starving myself and it is miserable. The pain from the surgery is almost non existent so that is a positive. The day after surgery was brutal from the pain and I could not tolerate the liquid pain medicine so it was really bad. Again, fortunately the pin went away. Just left with some huge bruises and cuts on my tummy. I can drink Water and my Protein Shakes and any Clear Liquids, but they do not take the edge off at all from the hunger. I had only read that people did not want food after the surgery, but that is all I can think of. I am irritable around my family because I feel the exact same as before the surgery except that I am starving.
I have my 1 week check in with the doctor tomorrow so I will bring this to his attention and hope to hear what I can do to control my uncontrollable appetite.
Does the hunger go away??

I got my surgery april 5th. This is exactly how i feel and then i have my protien shake and i get full instantly but its not long until im hungry again...

Hi Jesse, I was able to start on full liquids yesterday afternoon. I had grits last night and oatmeal this am. I was only able to eat about 1/2 a package of each, but boy did it help!! I am going to have instant (extra runny) mashed potatoes for lunch. I hope you are doing better. Now that I am able to intro more substance, I feel better.

I can say that if I'd been ALLOWED to have the surgery when my BMI was still 35, I'd probably still have functioning knees. :)

Instead, I had to wait until it was almost 45 and I needed a knee replacement. I'm 3 weeks out and my BMI just dropped into the 30s again yesterday. I say if you can afford or get coverage at a lower BMI, go for it! Especially if you, like me, did constant battle with being hungry all the time.

VSG will cut that right out for most of us. Congrats on your surgery!

@jesseforg123 It should get better once you can have "real" food which doesn't pass through the stomach as quickly, as long as it's not "head hunger" you're going through.

Some people also say it's excess acid that makes the hungry feeling. Are you on a PPI? (I never had acid reflux before surgery, but now I do and have to take the PPI or I'm pretty uncomfortable. It's not a bad trade off)

Hi, my BMI was about the same as yours SW -189 Height 5'7ish. My surgery was 4/11th. I am now 159 and have been stuck here for about 10 days. My goal is 135 so I still have a ways to go and at this rate it will take me a while. My fear is that I will get stuck and not lose anymore. I can not do high intensity cardio because I do not have enough energy. I still have a lot of hunger but the restriction helps with how much I eat at one setting. Good luck to you!

Please forgive if this is a rude question but what is your goal BMI? I was also BMI 29 at surgery, sleeved April 21. I am not at my personal goal yet so not thinking about maintanance. I am about half way there..hoping to reach a BMI of 22-23. But I did just hit a healthy BMI (24.9) for the first time in many many years so yay for that.

So happy to see this question, I am schedule to be sleeved next week and I'm 31 BMI and One of my main concerns is stabilizing when I'm at my desired weight. You both have mad amazing progress in a short time!

I had prior health issues and now I don't. Dont regret a thing. Its a process and now I need to maintain and not lose anymore - ****, didn't think I'd ever say that!

I have a lot of questions so please be patient:)

I'm 49 and 5"5 and 206 and my bmi is 34.1. I wanted to try the obrera balloons but with 6 people dying I'm not so sure. I need to do something with this weight!!! I have been trying to diet but I'm limited on my exercise due to my leg. About 5 years ago I was attacked by 2 dogs so a lot of nerve damage. At this time I have no Insurance so I hear a lot of people go to mexico to get this done. I'm guessing because it is cheaper? If I got this weight off I wouldn't be in so much pain. Any advice would be nice and Dr names too. I live in Houston texas

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
