Justweight 33 Posted February 20, 2017 I just came home from surgery (3 days post op) and I ate a orange. It just totally crossed my mind that that wasn't allowed. I feel horrible physically and emotionally. I feel like a failure. It felt like a rock was stuck in my throats. I threw up what I could. I'm feeling a lil better and taking sips of Water but I just feel horrible. I took my liquid hydrocodone but I threw up most of that too.Ugh. I'm just a disaster. 1 mmmk reacted to this
NewAdventure2016 131 Posted February 20, 2017 Don't stress this .. it's a journey ... and you have a lot to learn this early in your journey and that's ok!! I did a lot more than that. One day, I was eating grits and someone came in my office and started talking and I totally forgot and started scarfing them down! 15 minutes later I thought I was going to suffocate and threw it all up. I was thinking "what the heck was I thinking!" ... but no biggie, I just wasn't thinking for a minute, but I learned my lesson ... for the most part. Off and on during this journey, I'll eat a little too fast and feel awful. It's training me to slow down and to stop a little before I think I'm full. You got this! Hang in there! 1 Desertcanary reacted to this
clc9 644 Posted February 20, 2017 It's not 'no biggie' to eat an orange 3 days post op. And stressing isn't a overreaction. You can die. Literally. People have. You can develop a leak from the pressure, you can get an abscess from a piece of food getting stuck in your unhealed staple line. It's incredibly dangerous. Throwing up is also really bad for your unhealed stomach hence the anti-nausea meds in the hospital and the prescribed diet post-op. Please call your surgeon in the am and tell them what happened. They may want to check you out. 8 alyjuhl07, _Kate_, NewChiGirl and 5 others reacted to this
asantiago 89 Posted February 20, 2017 Hi. Hope you feeling better. I want you to please take this to heart! Please stick with the foods that you can only have. Follow your doctors instructions and food list. It is very very dangerous to eat the wrong foods. If you have a complication you can end up having major surgury again. I know it may not be easy at times but please be very careful. Dont stress to much. Just take it slowly and remember this is a process. You will be okay. Wish you the best. ??? 2 TexasguyEP and sweesee reacted to this
Justweight 33 Posted February 20, 2017 Feeling much better. That will never happen again. I've been sipping on my Protein Shakes and has some broccoli and cheese Soup. I have my post op appointment coming up so I will bring it up to them. I'm hopeful and believe I'm fine now. I feel fine

I was allowed cream based Soups but strained for the first 2 weeks post op. Mostly I had clear broths, Protein shakes, Jello and popsicles.
Jill_Me 100 Posted March 4, 2017 3 days post op you can have broccoli and cheese Soup? Be careful. I was allowed cream based Soups but strained for the first 2 weeks post op. Mostly I had clear broths, Protein Shakes, Jello and popsicles. This is too weird. Nobody even remotely should think of eating broccoli and cheese soup at 3 days postop. Seems fake, like this person is just trying to get attention. I've seen this kind of thing on a Facebook group I used to follow and the moderators would need to come in and stop comments (bc everyone would comment, either trying to help or bewilderment). 2 Er1n and Mickie0130 reacted to this
Mickie0130 61 Posted March 4, 2017 @Jill_Me I never thought of that. It did strike me as odd that anyone would come home from major surgery and peel a orange and eat it. 1 Er1n reacted to this
Justweight 33 Posted March 4, 2017 Lol. I made a mistake. Definitely not looking for attention. I just shared an experience I had. My doctor told me that she had a patient eat a bag of chips. It happens. I'm doing well now. Thanks for the encouragement. Last time I checked this group was to receive support and fellowship since we are in the same journey. Maybe you guys need to reevaluate yourselves. 3 DebiW, ssipunu and Mrs. Hayes reacted to this
