I am ten days post-op and sooooo tired of sweet tasting things. Any ideas for savory things that will work well at this stage? What were your favorites? thanks.

I made myself a veggie Soup with beef broth and blended then strained it. OMG. It was so good. I don't think I would have made it without it. LOL.

I so agree. all the shakes and bars are sweet and way too sweet for me. I enjoyed the ricotta bake as well as refried Beans ( fat free) with cheese. got unflavoured Protein powder and added it to soups=scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes. there are several sites where you can get recipe ideas on the internet for every stage of eating just google/

best of luck to you

Ugh I got so sick of the sweet too! That cheep fake sweet all the Protein powders have. My savior was chicken broth, made from bouillon cubes. Salty and savory and easy to digest!

I'm just a week post-op and I am really struggling to get enough liquid down me. I too am sick of the sweet Protein shakes, but unfortunately for me I've tried broths and thinned Soups and they taste revolting to me now (whereas before I'd always enjoyed soups).

I've definitely been doing Soups with Protein powders and unjury chicken Soup, but I agree with some of the previous posters that even that starts to get sickening. Five days for me until purees...ugh. :P

Hi vee.. you use a bag of split red lentils boil them for 10 mind taking starch of the top as they cook, then add about 8 carrots grated and 4 onions roughly chopped, boil for another 10 mind keep mixing as it sticks to bottom of pan, then add 2 peeled potatoes chopped up small so as to cook quick also add about 2 tablespoons of veg bouillon or to taste then cook till potatoes chunks are soft, when cooked blitz with a hand blender, this makes about a pressure cooker full of Soup mmmmm I could eat this now, hope you give it a try and enjoy it! Xx

That seems like a lot of ingredients for 7-10 days post op.
I do like my immersion blender; I am many years out... just be slow and patient. You can do this!

We are allowed blended Soup in the first 4 weeks post op and if you blend properly it goes down fine, I only have about 4 tablespoons at a time but your right Julie Norton you do have to be careful.

Ok. I will try this. I'm like stupefied trying to make this work. My loss has been significant since my surgery but I'm kind of losing it trying to make it. Ty so much for suggestions. And thx Julie for giving me the heads up to air on the side of caution

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
