Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I'm scheduled for my surgery on March 6 but I had a nasty fall yesterday and I have a fracture in my forearm got to see a specialist tomorrow but Im in a temp cast so far.

I cant reach my surgeon till Monday....do u think my surgery will have to be postponed!?

Unless you have to take some kind of pain medicine that will interfere with anesthesia meds, than I don't see how that would postpone. You'd be able to walk still, so that's good news. Hope it turns out nicely...and your forearm heals great too.

Will you need surgery on the arm? An arm in a cast shouldn't cause any trouble for your WLS.

Surely the post op diet would mean you don't take on enough calories to help with bone healing. The last thing you want is a non union of your broken bone. I guess it depends on how bad the fracture is.

That's a good point. While, I don't think it would preclude surgery, it would be especially important to be sure to get your Protein in and be extra diligent with Vitamins.

I had my surgery postponed due to a hysterectomy back in January but only ended up losing ten days . So they might just push it back a little . I'll be 8 weeks between surgeries

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
