Weight gain after having a baby..

Recommended Posts

I won't be having a baby in the next two years but it is a fear in the back of my mind.

I would like to know how much those of you who had a baby after the surgery gained and wether it was too difficult to watch out for your cravings during pregnancy. How much did you gain??

At this point, I will starve myself to prevent myself from getting to the point where I was before. I know that is not the wisest thing to say but I will not let it happen again. My fear is that during pregnancy, preventing myself from keeping a healthy diet in fear of gaining massively, might hurt my baby. Which clearly no body wants...

I am ranting..

You MUST be expedient about your eating and nutrition. I began writing my story a few minutes ago and accidental erased the entire thing, so i will put the short version. I was sleeved 2012. Git to goal in about 18 months. Maintained for about 3 years. Got pregnant. Didn't put much emphasis on my health and nutrition above and beyond what I thought was good for baby. Always allowed myself to sneak a lil extra or splurged because i was "eating for two"?..you know the excuses we told ourselves to get to the point of needing the wls in the first place. My son is now 19 months old and i have gained 100+ lbs. Im doing 6 month preop diet in HOPES that my ins will approve revision to rny. I always said i would NEVER let myself get like that again and in fact the people who would post about regaining used to make me so annoyed lol, like duh how could you go thru all this and go right back?! Well it happens one day at a time, one bad meal choice at a time, and if you are not extremely aware of the possibility that it can happen to you, you might be the one next time writing on someone else's message. Ppleeeeeze make wise choices and good luck to you!! You got this! (Sorry for the negative view its just a reality, my reality that i don't wish upon anyone!)

I was sleeved in 2011. I had a baby in 2014, I was at my goal weight. Because of several rusk factors, I knew my angel would be early. I had to increase my Protein. I did indulge in dill pickles, this was really my only craving. Lol! Anyways, I gained 34 lbs during my 7 1/2 month pregnancy. I was scared! At about 6 weeks post partum, I was back to my pre pregnancy weight. I was going through alot of stress in my life as well as a back injury. I reverted back to stress eating.
One day, I stepped on the scales and had gained 37 lbs. Its been hard, but I am watching what I eat and trying to be more active. I never want to be that overweight again.

This is something that scares me. My SO wants to start having children 5 years from now and I worry about weight gain, cravings and the possibility harming the baby if I don't properly.

I wonder would the child be under weight, malnutritioned or sickly because of the decision I am making now.

I understand how you are feeling.

Now...definitely check with your doc on this...but maybe look into the diet for women with gestational diabetes? I ate and ate when I first got pregnant. Then I found out I had GD. The diet actually stabilized my weight gain to where the baby was growing but I wasn't gaining.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
