neverland3 0 Posted February 18, 2017 Hello, Today was the first appt I had with my primary care doctor and he did not referral me because I did not hit the BMI of 40 ( but I'am a 38 BMI) and I have no other issues besides being overweight ,anxiety and depression . I did let the doctor know that I have anxiety and depression but still no referral . I guess my question is what can I do to get approved or is there a private facility that will take me with the bmi of 38 so I can pay out of pocket .
dstgirl11 22 Posted February 18, 2017 Have anyone ever told you that you snore? or stop breathing when you sleep? I didn't know either until an ex-boyfriend told me. I finally made an appointment with my PCP and she recommend a sleep study. Sure enough, I had sleep apnea. I had to get a cpap machine to use when I sleep. I know that is helping me but I do have high blood pressure.
neverland3 0 Posted February 18, 2017 No no one has ever told me that I snore , unless I'm really tired . My pcp is ordering all test on me and sleep apnea is one of them .
neverland3 0 Posted February 18, 2017 Also my doctor basically told me if I gain 20 pounds I would qualify I just think that is so ridiculous .
dstgirl11 22 Posted February 18, 2017 That is ridiculous. I've had people tell me that have put weights in their pockets to help them. Of course, it didn't work. When I went to my first appointment, the surgeon kept telling me to lose weight and I lost over 23 pounds. On the other hand, my sister went to a different doctor and they didn't tell her to lose anything.
neverland3 0 Posted February 18, 2017 Damit I should have put weights in my pocket ..lol
dstgirl11 22 Posted February 18, 2017 LOL. I hope all goes well with you. While I don't wish any type of sickness on you, I know you want this surgery, so maybe sleep apnea can be one of those options.
neverland3 0 Posted February 18, 2017 lol right ...thanks
Iona 23 Posted February 19, 2017 My Mom had to gain weight for her insurance to cover the surgery. I'd recommend checking what your insurance regulations are (for example mine only covers it if you're 35+ BMI -and- have diabetes) and seeing if there's a way you can qualify.
