asantiago 89 Posted February 16, 2017 Hell so sorry you having a hard time. I had 3 major surgury from December 16, 2014 up until November 2016 and they had to put a NG tube in my nose to flush things out and I was in IV at home for 6 month in a half everyday for 12 hours. I still have issue keeping food down and have lost a tremendous amount of weight. Have you been eating small portion ? Have you been drinking Protein shake? It takes forever for me rock finish but try to keep drinking little by little. I saw a nutritionist. Let me know if you need any suggestions or questions. Hang in there. asantiago 89 Posted February 16, 2017 Do you vomit when you eat food a lot? That happen to Me and I had two bowel obstruction and had to have surgury both times not including the bypass. The tube doesn't hurt but ot feels uncomfortable because they make you drink Water while you are swallowing and as you swallow the tube is going down with the help of Wk surgeon or doctor. Couldn't tolerate it so when they did ny surguey they did it while I was under anesthesia but it doesn't hurt it feels uncomfortable like you have something in our nose but it's no pain. Mickie0130 61 Posted February 18, 2017 I'm an RN and I put NG tubes in my patients all the time and they are not asleep. We actually need your help when it is passing down the throat. You'll be asked to drink and swallow as it's being advanced. Putting patients asleep is not the norm for this procedure. Afterwards they may order a chest x-ray to double check placement is on the stomach and not lungs.
klingie84 91 Posted February 19, 2017 RN here also n u are awake for an ng tube. We need you to swallow the Water n everything to help it advance to your stomach. I have never done one on an unconscious pt. Chest X-ray is only way we can verify accurately at my hospital per policy.
asantiago 89 Posted February 20, 2017 Hello Yes NG tubes are mostly done awake. I know they try having me swallow the tube but I couldn't handle it. I get a lot of anxiety and I think I got so nervous I pulled it out as soon as they had me try to swallow Water. I had obstruction so I needed surgury and not sure how they inserted it on me but when I woke up, I had a tube in my nose. What is the major reason for those tubes? I know stuff was coming out of my stomach.
blondie66 271 Posted February 20, 2017 This might be not valid but the first few months if I drank anything and ate at same time I'd vomit. I couldn't eat any solids until 10 weeks... kept to Protein Shakes. But healed well and no issues.
