Hi everyone, this is actually my third post, ...ever. I probably should have started here, but didn't know how -- so here goes. I'm 41, obese, sick of yo-yo dieting, and sick of being disappointed in myself. I thought i had made up my mind to go ahead with the band, but i read some of the posts about erosions, slips, failed bands, and they started me thinking about long term success. Does anyone have any info on long term success/failure rates? if you read some of those posts you get the idea that the band is like a time bomb. I really had so much excitement and hope going for a while, and now i have cold feet.

Thanks, Jmarie:help:

Yeah, one problem with message boards like this is the false impression that they give which is that major problems are common.

They are not.

Hey there, I am also 'wondering" about it. I think I'm going ahead with it. Even being really good, the weight comes off so slowly, I get frustrated and ..well, eat how I like. I've been reading lots about it, too. Seems there is overwhelming positive about the band. Are you up to the challenge?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
