sally628 63 Posted February 16, 2017 I know seltzer isn't allowed post op but can I have it on liquid pre-op? I'm day 1 and struggling and the carbonation usually fills me.
sleevinpops 303 Posted February 16, 2017 I know seltzer isn't allowed post op but can I have it on liquid pre-op? I'm day 1 and struggling and the carbonation usually fills me.I was told no. The longer you can go without, the easier it will be down the road too. Good luck, you got this!

DerekD 11 Posted February 18, 2017 I was also told no carbonation for the rest of my life.
kimberb 323 Posted February 18, 2017 You were told no to all of these? That should of said caffeine drinks. You need to get your brain on track with what is going to be your new, healthier and skinner you. Start it now cause post-op you're going to be dealing with enough changes. I can have caffiene drinks after 3 months. Caffeine messes with healing.
clc9 644 Posted February 18, 2017 I didn't have a pre-op diet. I only had to lose 10 pounds before surgery. I am drinking one diet coke a day. My surgery is Wednesday. Personally I can't see how a pre-op no calorie no caffeine seltzer would hurt. It's not like you're eating a Big Mac. That said, I understand the theory behind having a pre-op diet prepare you for post-op. Maybe I'll struggle more than someone who had a strict one. Maybe I won't. Bottom line, always follow your doctor's plan. 1 shaunah reacted to this
sally628 63 Posted February 19, 2017 I already gave up caffeine coffee tea weeks ago and gave up seltzer which I lived on . Just have few bottles left and was wondering if I could have . SLIMPICKENS55 41 Posted February 19, 2017 No carbonated drinks, they're trying to shrink your liver and to give them space in your belly to do laparoscopic. And afterwards you could not drink anything carbonated for a long time because the carbonation will make your stomach get gas in it and it'll make your stomach expand making you able to eat more in the future. Plus the carbonation can eat at your incision inside and cause you to have complications. Definitely not worth itSent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

clc9 644 Posted February 19, 2017 Seltzer can't make your liver bigger.
Kaylamh 144 Posted February 19, 2017 It's more about setting yourself up for life than about shrinking your liver (in relation to the carbonation). Not to mention carbonation is terrible for your kidneys
