Transdermal multivitamin experience

Recommended Posts

I just bought the PatchMD Multivitamin to try, I'm wondering if anyone has used these and seen adifference in their blood work. Specifically, if someone was deficient before using it and has seen improvement after. I keep forgetting to take my Vitamins throughout the day, this patch seems so convenient, I just can't find any reliable studies online to see how efficient they are.

I've been using the Patches since about a month out from my VSG, and my labs have been great. I've had a vit D deficiency and an Iron deficiency for years, I corrected the Iron issue pre-op but was still D deficient even on oral supplementation. It's now in normal range on the Patches, for the first time in 10 years. And I live in the Pacific Northwest, so it's not sun exposure that's doing it!

Thank you! Glad to know they work!

I've taken them since surgery. No deficiency. Love them!

I did the Patches for the first month after surgery. The only complaint I have is that they didn't seem to stay on throughout the day like they should... like the adhesive wasn't strong enough so they would roll up by the end of the day. Not sure how much I got out of them, so I went ahead and switched to the Vitamin chews for now until I am a little further out. Anyone have tips or suggestions on why they wouldn't stay on?? The directions said to put on parts of your body with little to no hair, so I would wear on my shoulders.

My NUT was avidly against them, and after reading some studies about them...well, the implication was that they are BS. I really WANT them to be real, but every study I've read implies that Vitamins simply aren't absorbed transdermally. >__<

If you're looking for scholarly articles then pubmed or Google scholar. But  Vitamin can be delivered via tranadermal.  PatchMD for example uses microneedles. There are several different delivery methods and with nanotechnology it really opened up so many avenues, even though tranadermal patch technology is old. Years ago,  Vitamins couldn't be delivered through the skin. I was even taught that in school about 8 yrs in undergrad but things have changed. So feel free to search and learn!!!!!

I always put them on right after I shower and put on my bra and panties. Then I place the Patches right below my bra band, on my upper abdomen. I've never had mine budge!

I put mine on either my left or right outer part of shoulder before my bra strap. I have worn them day, night, after showers, and during workouts. Only twice they have ever rolled up and that was when I forgot to put them on and I forgot I put on lotion, and when I tried to put them on my stomach.

My nutritionist and svurgeon both advised against.

I bought some and then asked my NUT. She said the absorption isn't good so I've stuck to the chewables since then. I will use them, though, since I already have them. Wish I'd gotten a thumbs up.

My labs came back iffy on the Patches. I'm taking the Multi Plus patch and the D3/Calcium Patch. Labs showed everythingwas good EXCEPT my Calcium and Iron were low. Ive ordered the iron patch and added calcium Vitamins to my diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
