Hello All,

I had my surgery on the 20th January, and I'm currently on the last week of the puree diet stage.

The past few days I've been experiencing nausea and weakness through my entire body, but mainly in my arms. I did a little google search with the help of my boyfriend and found that I may have been experiencing symptoms of late dumping syndrome. So I adjusted the amount of time I was waiting between eating and drinking, which I thought to be the problem. This morning, 19 hours after last eating something, I've tried to eat some mushy Weetabix (my usual Breakfast during this stage, has never been a problem for me before) and after one teaspoon, I still feel nauseated and can't eat any more. There's no way that this can be dumping syndrome after that long.

I've called my Bariatric Team for advice and I'm waiting on the Dietitian to come back to me, but I wondered if anyone had any advice, or had experienced the same thing?

My FitBit says my heart rate is 65 at the moment, which is about normal for me. If that's useful at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Sam

I don't have any answers, but wanted to wish you well, and hopefully the surgeon's office can shed some light.

So I had extreme nausea start about 3 weeks after surgery. I couldn't eat, drink, or even smell food without being extremely nauseated. I ended up in the hospital for 9 days so they could give me fluids. That started 6 months of basically hell where I had a picc line put in so I could infuse nutrition and fluids directly to my veins because I couldn't eat or drink. I didn't eat or drink anything for 1 1/2 months and I was put on 5 different antinausea meds all at the same time to try and battle it but I was still very nauseous. After a month and a half I started being able to eat and drink a tiny but but not enough to give myself enough nutrition. So I continued with the infusions for about 6 months and continued to be nauseous all the time even though I had 2 Patches, and 3 by mouth meds to help battle it. Then one day I had extreme pain and started throwing up. They found I had gallstones and they scheduled a time for me to get my gallbladder out. The day I woke up from having my gallbladder out I no longer had any nausea. I think it was my gallbladder the entire time. I suggest you get your gallbladder checked.

I do hope you feel better soon though!!

Gosh Pixie, I'm sorry to hear that.
I recently had a blood test that came back clear, but I still feel generally unwell. Not to the extent you have, however!
My left big toe has gone numb, so I'm off to the doctors on Friday. A nuisance, but I'm hoping it will give me some answers!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
