Any medical or physician assistant students here?

I'm concerned about how well I'll be able to perform my academic duties during clinical rotations after surgery. I've read that people have to constantly sip fluids through the day. Is this for the rest of our lives?

I'm currently in the phase when I'm competing for a seat in the program so clinicals wouldn't be until Fall of 2019 at the soonest. I'm looking at getting a VSG this summer.

That many years out, do any sleevers go without food or drink for up to 3 or 4 hours? I might be able to sneak sips in some settings, but if I'm in the OR, I can't keep stepping out or bring a drink with me.

not that you asked for the advice of a nurse practitioner student but i had my surgery in november and went back to clinicals soon after that. the recovery isn't as brutal as u think. good luck.

Thanks! The surgery is something I really want/need and I think it will really help me improve my health and my general performance, but it's also not reversible so I'm just making sure I've got all the info. Are you happy with your surgery? How has it affected you and your academic performance?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
