5.5 weeks out and all of a sudden full feeling is gone!!?!

Recommended Posts

this is so strange. I'm 5.5 weeks out and lost just under 40 pounds.

I was eating about 4 oz per meal as I began my soft food diet last week. I ate slowly and definitely got that feeling of when was full and often didn't finish my meal or take a bit longer to finish it.

Yesterday, I ate a Greek yogurt and realized I ate 5oz with no problems. No full feeling. huh Today, all my meals have been the same way. Even drinking Water. That funny feeling in my stomach to tell me I'm full is gone. If I hadn't measured out my portion, I probably could have eaten more? I also noticed that I would only be able to finish half a small cup of coffee and today and I could drink all of it with no physical signal/issues. Can even drink water more easily. I did increase my water intake quite a bit b.c of severe Constipation and Dr. told me to increase it.

I find this so strange. Anyone else experience this? I actually liked the physical sensation of feeling super full. It was a good signal for me. Can a stomach suddenly stretch out?

Initially you were able to drink very little because your stomach was very swollen. The fact that you can drink and eat more now is an indicator that the swelling is mostly gone. Get acquainted with your new stomach. Continue to monitor what you eat and drink. Your restriction should kick in soon.

I didn't think of that. It does make sense and I suddenly feel a lot better/like my old self and no longer have mobility restrictions. I can sleep on my side/stomach again.

I'll start measuring and weighing my food now to keep on top of it.

Did this happen to anyone else?

If the change was sudden (overnight), you might mention it to your doc. And if it sounds normal to them, then that is great! Yogurt and liquids are supposed to go down smoothly. The restriction should be felt again when eating solids (presumably 8 weeks out). This is why they want you eating your meals and drinking only zero calorie beverages in maintenance.

This is all normal. The swelling has subsided. Like mentioned above, yogurt will go down easily. That's why it is often allowed during the liquid phase. Once you start eating more solid foods, you will feel the restriction more. Also, some days you will feel fuller quicker than others. I will measure out 3 oz of meat. Some days I can eat all of it and think I could probably eat more. Other days I can't even eat 2 oz. This is why I measure everything I eat! When I get too full or eat too quickly, I always get the hiccups. I can use my sleeve as a guide most of the time, but not all of the time. Measure, measure, measure.

I agree with others, some days I feel like I can eat more than other days. Sometimes it depends on how good I am with liquids, obviously can't eat as much if I had too much Water too soon to eating. Yesterday I got in probably 3 oz of chicken and a couple bites of salad and today I had two bites of chicken and 3 bites of salad and I was done but today I kept up my water better and probably drank a couple swallows within 20 min of eating.

Wait...you had salad? I'm so jealous! I've been craving salad like crazy, but I can't tolerate it. I made the mistake of trying a few bites of lettuce about 8-9 weeks out and that was a hard no. Now I'm afraid to try again. I can tolerate most other things well. Anyone know how long before I should try again?

Thanks for all the posts! Sensation did come back but not like it was before so I really have to pay attention to the new signals!

I was told I can have vegetables if they are soft Still no raw fruit or vegetables until 6 months or so - including salad. Can't wait to have salad again!!!

Yes, I have tolerated most foods fine except citrus, I had a sip of lemonade and my stomach hurt so bad. I am very glad I am tolerating lettuce because even pre-op salad was one of my favorite foods and I was missing it. I was given the green light to eat most anything at 4 weeks post op was just told to try things slowly and add new things one at a time. I know a lot of people can't tolerate it so I am super lucky. I don't eat much at a time and I cut it up really good and make sure to chew very well. I started with making a mostly cucumber salad with small diced peppers and onions and such and just added a little lettuce and slowly I've added more lettuce.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
