I will be doing my liquid diet starting March 12th. I am wondering for those whom have already gone through the diet, how can I prepare myself better. I am stocking up on my Protein Shakes, broth and Vitamins but I am wondering, what are some other things I can get to ensure that I don't fall off of my diet ?

I would really like some insight.

Thank you.

My best suggestion is to replace a current meal with either a Protein shake or broth. Maybe try working up to only having one actual meal on some days to prepare. I did that leading up to my 2 weeks and it seemed to help take the edge off. No matter what the first few days were still tough. It does take a fair amount of mental preparation for it.

I kept in mind all the effort was to help shrink my liver and make surgery easier and that was a big motivator for me. For all the ups and downs and battles I went through for the past 6 months this was the home stretch and would all be worth it in the end.

Please Learn from my mistake, shop for the full 2 weeks of liquid before starting it. I was 3 days in and I needed to go grocery shopping, and boy was that an adventure lol. Also prepare your family for the liquid phase as well. I say that because last night on my 8th day of liquids my daughter forgot and grilled cubed steak for me before she remembered I couldn't have it. Good Luck and God Bless on your Journey!!!

My pre op was 2 Protein shakes a day and a lean dinner. 2 weeks prior to that I started doing 1 Protein and 2 lean so when the 2 weeks started it was not too bad. But like 2-liter said make sure u have everything because u don't want to have to go to the grocery store hungry that's for sure. Good luck with your surgery and process!

My surgeon has given me a diet of 2 Protein shakes, a lean meal with fish and 2c of vegetables for my pre op 2 weeks. He has also given me some other options such as one serving of specified fruit and 500ml of skim milk so I suppose I am lucky. I have started replacing 1 meal a day at the moment and will lift that to 2 Protein Shakes the week before I really have to start. Surgery is planned for 25th March so that makes it March 10th I have to do it properly.

I have approached this in a project management fashion lol.

It is very nice to hear that other people are going through the same thing. This is pretty scary though. It makes me wonder will I succeed. Like I cant even refrain from junk food and the real battle has not started yet.

I do know myself and I know that I am preparing but the food calls me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
