Medical alert bracelet

Recommended Posts

Where did you get yours. I'm in GTA, Canada. I can't find any nice ones.

Lauren's hope has nice ones but they are in the states and will ship here. Anyone buy from them and ship to Canada. Did you have to pay customs etc. How much?

Any other places that sell them?

TIA :)

I can't imagine why. The odds? We shouldn't take Nsaids after bariatric surgery. It sounds silly to me

I haven't had my sleeve surgery yet, but this is the first I have ever heard of medical alert bracelets for bariatric surgery. Is it necessary?

The purpose it to warn EMTs of doing a blind intubation in the event of an emergency. Since the stomach is so much smaller there is a higher risk of the intubation tube actually puncturing your stomach.

Is that the same for sleeve patients?

Yes, for sleeves as well. I didn't know anything about it either until my final meeting and the office nurse said something about it. It's not something I plan on doing, but that's just me.

My surgeon said we should have a card with a note near our license saying NO NG TUBE, BARIATRIC SURGERY, no I'D Bracelet needed

My surgeon recommended a Medical alert Bracelet.

Mine says: Bariactric surgery

No Blind NG tube

Fluid capacity 60 CC

No Nsaids

My husband and his number for emergency contact.

You would be surprised how many emergency room and Drs are not familiar with weight loss surgery and protocol. My Dr said always call them first then go to emergency room as needed. This office has been in business for a long time and does about 500 surgeries a year.

I am not telling anyone outside my immediate family, is the bracelet very obvious?

But what if you're not by your wallet? I'm not taking any chances with my health. If an ID bracelet can literally save my life, why would I not do it?

You can get a bracelet that looks like a bracelet. I wear mine all the time and no one knows it's a medical bracelet unless I tell them. There are some really nice ones out there that are not expensive.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
