Berry78 4,261 Posted February 13, 2017 Some people choose to chew it after they heal. As always, it is best to follow your surgeon's protocol on this. Dr.s usually don't like it because if it were to be swallowed by accident, could result in a blockage. Also, the act of chewing gets the stomach ready to receive food.... creating acid, hunger, etc.Personally I don't chew much now, so won't miss it. JMarshall 352 Posted February 13, 2017 I would stay away from gum after surgery. When you chew gum you swallow air which will bloat you. The gas pains are bad after surgery and adding bloating from chewing gum is not needed. I am 5 years post op and still get bloating from chewing gum.Sent from my Nexus 6 using the BariatricPal App

bajagirlo8 7 Posted February 16, 2017 I chewed a piece of gum, without even thinking about it. I had the worse gas pain ever, while I was at work. I felt like I was going to explode. No more fun for me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App 1 brooklyn42 reacted to this
