4 days post op, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I will be 4 days post op. I have severe gas pains. I have started passing gas some but the pains in between are terrible. I haven't had a bowel movement in 4 days and feel generally weak and crappy. Please tell me if this is normal. Thanks!

absolutely normal. the gas pains come after the surgery because they pump you full of air. sip on your Water and walk as much as possible. a heating pad helped me. I got relief once I had a bowel movement. the weakness will last several months. sorry but you need truth. good luck

Hi. I'm 7 days out and finally my gas pain is over. I was also having tummy spasms that were crazy painful and they are now gone too. My tummy is very noisy tho.

I am getting closer to my Protein and fluid goals each day but still not there yet.

I didn't take a poop til yesterday and it was such a relief:-).

Searching posts here about my symptoms really has helped when I start to worry.

Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
