Da Vinci Syrup

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am in the Optifast stage starting today. I am liking it so far but I know I will have to add some variety to it later on. I read somewhere that there is a sugarfree brand of flavor syrups by Da Vinci. Can anyone tell me where to get them? Are they available in Canada?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi - I just fininshed my Optifast stage and had my surgery yesterday (in Calgary)!!!!

You can buy the Davinci syrups at the Diabetic Depot in Calgary ($10.98 a bottle). I bought the Raspberry and the Amerreto (tasted like almonds, but not like the liquer). Both were delicious. 0 fat and 0 calories.

Diabetic Depot also sells a brand called "Walden Farms" - 0 fat and 0 calories - salad dressings and such. I bought the bacon ranch Salad Dressing - ok but not terrific, and I bought caramel and chocolate dips - OMG- delicious. My my Optifast taste like a fudge sundae.

Whenever possible I did my optifast in the blender with Water and 4 ice cubes and the flavoring or dip - tasted like a great smoothie.

Diabetic Depot has a website: Diabetic Depot - Low Carbohydrate Gluten Free Products and they say they ship (start at the catalogue and go from there). Not sure if you would have time to get them - but also worthy of consideration for the future.

Good Luck!!!!

Another sugar free Syrup I used, and again it is in the US---but you can check their web site is Torani. Torani: Your Place for Flavors, Ideas & Inspiration I believe. I checked and saw who had what I wanted on sale...they are very similar.

Glad you heard from someone more local to you where you can find it, they do wonders for the Protein shakes!!!!

There are a few sugar free syrups in Canada. If you don't have a specialty shop like Diabetic Depot around (low carbers love the syrups so anywhere that has low carb foods probably has them...as do their websites), try the coffee shops. Starbucks and other independents often sell the bottles or can get them from their suppliers if you ask them to. I have also been able to buy single bottles from coffee supply houses (wholesalers to coffee shops). You can find them in the yellow pages, give them a call and see if they have them and sell to the public (or they can tell you who in your area they supply where you can buy them).

Torani, DeVinci, and ... oh argh I can't remember their name (they are actually from BC) have great websites that have recipes and lists of suppliers.

The other strange place you can get them is at home shows. Those booths that have those mini hand mixers they make coffees with often sell the bottles of syrups.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
