Emotional Eating Substitute

Recommended Posts

So I'm an emotional eater and have been working with my therapist to deal with the emotions instead of eating. I have plans in place of what to do but just wondered if anyone has suggestions or examples of what worked for you?

I worry about this too.

Leading up to my two week diet, I've been strictly following a high-protein/low-carb diet and meticulously tracking my intake. I have to say that holding myself in check has been easier than I thought it would be, because I really don't have a choice. I have to follow the rules. I'm hoping the same will happen post surgery when bingeing simply isn't an option.

Good job with tracking! What do you do when you have the urge to binge or eat bad foods? I've been tracking my food as well it is going well but it gets hard when I really want something because of stress or situations that get under my skin.

It is hard. I have been careful not to bring junk in the house, so that helps. And I'm trying to find good substitutes for when I want something sweet (sweets are my downfall). I'm liking sugar free popsicles.

Confession: My son made Cookies all by himself today for all of us for dessert and I ate one, but only one! Which is amazing for me! They were Peanut Butter, my very favourite! First time having sugar in two weeks and I don't even crave more.

I am the same I am an emotional eater. My surgery date to be confirmed.Yes I agree the best thing is not to buy the foods in.It is harder for you because you have a son.I live alone so that can be a good thing and a bad thing and when my son comes over he only eats healthy so that is good for me.I bought some ice cube trays so I can make small ice Lilly's or sugar free jelly sweets eventually.

1poundatatime your son sounds really sweet! It does put us in an awkward position when the little ones make a special treat, but we have to say no (particularly right after surgery). Be sure to explain to him that the Dr says you can't eat sweets, but you would love it if he made you a Protein Shake (or whatever).

My MIL lives with us and is constantly bringing in cakes, Cookies, pies, etc. Stuff has been my downfall in a big way. After the surgery I'm just gonna toss the stuff in the trash when I see it. I've told her... if she wants a treat for herself, more power to her, but don't bring whole cakes into the house and leave them out for everyone. NO one in our house needs this stuff!

I am finding this very difficult am 8 days post op. My post op diet is now blended foods for 2 weeks which is better tha liquids but i am missing food. On Friday i took my son to the cinema and had ice cream and have eaten some small pieces of chocolate. I dont want to cheat at this but feel like i have given up my comfort in life. My band was put in with 4ml fill in it already but i dont feel too much restriction as i could drink freely after the first couple of days and i feel hungry.

I think it's fantastic your in therapy. Emotional eatingis one of the factors that lead to regain postop.

I have not found a substitue and its unnerving. I wish ai resolved my issues with food preop, this surgery would be unnecessary

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
