I have experienced this mortal terror twice.

My Mom died of a blood clot. Her doctor said it was superficial, nothing to worry about. Take an aspirin and see me in the morning. Clot broke loose and killed her before morning.

2 years later I was giving birth to my son. Right after he was born I had some red, tender veins in my leg. The hospital checked me for clots. They told me it was something that sounded like clots, and the nurse said not to rub it because they could break off. I FLIPPED OUT! I was gonna die, leaving my newborn baby. I lived in mortal fear for several days until I went to my OB, and they explained that I didn't have clots, it was just inflamed veins, and they kept me on heparin to make sure I wouldn't get them.

The 2nd time, I was on the phone with my brother, he was coughing, and I was coughing. A week later, he was dead from blood clots in the lungs. I was still coughing, so before climbing on the plane (he got the clots from flying) to go to the funeral, I went to the ER to get checked out to make sure I was ok. My cough was just a cold, but having the doctor tell me that really helped.

Mortal Terror is the WORST. Try to figure out what you need to hear or experience to put your mind at ease. (Obviously talking to doctors helps me :) ).

Hello
I just wanted to say that I suffer from anxiety and yes it's awful and the fear can be very tough, so tell your doctor it's important you do and with the right therapy you will see this through, deep breathing in and out is one of the most powerful tools to overcome anxiety and relaxation music too, be kind to yourself it's the bodies way of protecting you and in some it manifests in anxiety and it needs to be addressed by a professional. You will be ok darling x

Thanks!

I chickened out and told my doctor that I changed my mind about going on an antidepressant.

I see a therapist for the first time tomorrow and I hope it helps.

I already feel better now than when I first made this post, but I’m still having sleep problems.

I have terrible problems with anxiety and depression. It took me a year before the doctor could talk me into taking antidepressants. That was quite a few years ago and quite frankly the best decision I ever made.

After WLS I had about a week of struggling with anxiety, but it eventually got much better.

The therapy session should help you and if it doesn't then you either need to find a different therapist or consider taking the antidepressants. I tried biofeedback at one point and that seemed to help quite a bit. Sometimes it's just a matter of redirecting your mind to happier thoughts.

Another thing that has helped since my surgery is coloring. I cannot read due to my lack of concentration right now, but I could color for short stints at a time and it helped me to relax. Just food for thought!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
