I failed...I didn't succeed with sleeve!

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on May 29, 2015 and did pretty well for the first three months. I lost 40 lbs in that three months but I got lazy with my working out and I started consuming alcohol again and of course I wasn't sticking to the low carb, high Protein diet. Needless to say, I stopped loosing and over time gained back some of those 40 lbs. Now I am in desperate need to loose the weight once and for all, but I am lacking motivation. I have heard about people having "Ah-ha" moments that lead him/her to finally committing and losing the weight. I haven't had mine and I wonder if I ever will. To tell you how unmotivated I actually am, I joined Weight Watchers online in June and haven't lost a single pound. What is wrong with me?! I can tell you one major problem... I consume beer way too much and too often. My food habits aren't great but they aren't horrible either. I joined WW because I absolutely cannot handle a low carb, high protein diet long. I get so grossed out by the meat and eggs and end up starving myself, so I went with something where I can consume carbs, fruit and pretty much anything in moderation. Well... if only I had the motivation to follow it. Are there any of you out there that are in my boat that we can maybe be buddies and do this together?

Watch a couple of my 600lb life episodes. I am obsessed with that show. I went to the store to buy a healthy snack the other day and roamed around the store for 45 minutes.
I walked out with a pack of green tea instead. In my previous life, I would have chugged down three bottles of soda with out a single care in the world, on my walk in the store.

I gotta admit, that show is motivating. I don't ever want to have their troubles.

Netflix has a great docu called "Hungry for Change". And Hulu has one called "The Perfect Human Diet". These kinds of documentaries are fascinating to me as well as motivating. It illustrates how much "non-human" food we consume. Made me look at my food way differently.

I'm only 6 days out so food is no problem for me. I don't get any:-) but I'm prepping for some good clean eating when I can.

Have you tried therapy?

I highly suggest you leave the beer alone. I could go on about didn't you think of all this BEFORE surgery? But you're past that. I had my ah-ha moment before surgery. That's why I had it. I just had my surgery on 2/9. You sound like you are your worse enemy. I hope you can find what you're looking for.

I second the recommendation for therapy. You had the surgery, so you still have the tool. Therapy can help you begin to address your self sabotaging behavior. And trust me, no need to feel any shame. Just get back it! You can do it.

I did the pouch reset. It helped me get back on track I have lost 10 more lbs in 8days . Alot is Water weight but it made me look at things different . It resets your head too. It isn't easy but it works and the uncomfortable feeling is back when you eat to much so I make sure I am minding my p's and q's. And dotting my no beer either and I love my beer. It is best to stay away from that stuff because the alcohol numbs the stomach and you also eat to much at least I did . Please look up pouch reset. And get yourself back on track you can do this . We all have an awsome tool . I was 458lbs when I started this journey and I am now back down to 268lbs. So it works . Mind set, mind set ,mind set

I had the sleeve in May of 2016 and I also haven't down the low carb/high Protein only diet. I know I wouldn't succeed at that because I like carbs too much. I had tried a diet like that before and hated it! I follow a mostly weight watcher diet and 96% the meals I make are weight watcher recipes. You need to start with what you can handle. I like to plan meals for the week and do all my shopping in one day and then having the choice of which meal to make each night but knowing I have everything. I sometimes do some of the meal prep too if I know I'll be out late and won't want to spend time preparing that night.

Different diets work for different people. It's all about what YOU are willing to do. I have lost 226 pounds using weight watcher recipes. I usually can only eat half a serving anyway.

I also think maybe getting some therapy would be helpful to get to the root of why you overeat. You don't have to go forever. You can go to a therapist once, 3 times, or for years. It's all about however long you feel you need the help. It's nice to have an impartial person to help give insight to why you are thinking a certain way.

I had my aha moment 3 days before my consultation for surgery. I called the minute after I had it to make my first appointment. I agree it is hard to lose weight when you haven't had an aha moment, which is why I never succeeded in the past. This time has been COMPLETELY different for me in my mindset. I would in the past beat myself up if I went off plan a little and then go on a bender because I'd just be like, why even try? Now I realize it's okay. It's okay to eat what you want as long as it is in moderation.

I wish you the best of luck and if you need any help feel free to message me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
