Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Just want to know why......

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone. Over and over I read the same thing and while Iam reading Iam nodding my head in agreement wondering WTF happened to my tastebuds when it comes to Water. I agree with you all, it just. Doesn't. Taste. Good. I have tried adding lemons etc. but nothing really helps. Like you, I keep plugging away each day doing my best -which totally falls short of goal. My question is....does anyone know WHY this happens post surgery?????

Taste buds change, but I don't know if anyone knows WHY exactly. I suspect it is hormonal (like pregnant women can smell odors 10x stronger).

In addition, try Water at different temperatures, try different brands from the store (there are huge differences in taste!).

Hopefully something will click. Good luck!

I can now only drink ICE COLD Water, with ice literally floating in it. Anything warmer than that is no good. I'm grateful to still be able to drink water at all, since I loved water pre-op.

At least there are a lot of options for getting water in if you no longer like the taste. flavored water, tea, coffee....

I am the same way as Jamie, I can only drink Water if it is ice cold with lots of ice in it. And even then, it's not one of my favorite things to drink like it used to be prior to surgery. Now my favorite drink is iced Decaf unsweet tea.

It really is funny how the taste buds have changed since surgery.

It is totally NUTS! Something I never expected. I drink pure spring Water which I get directly from the natural spring. I LOVED this water before surgery and now.....meh. Lol. My glass is full and will do my best to get it in! However, small price to pay [emoji383] to be on the losers bench. What a great bench it is!!!! [emoji4]

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
