Pregnancy before the one year mark?

Recommended Posts

I know this is frowned upon before passing the one year mark, but does anyone have experience with having a baby prior to the one year mark?

I was told 18 months... sorry I'm just surprised by the 12, ahaha. But yeah, because our bodies are still adjusting to the shift in nutrition, it could put more stress on a pregnancy to do it beforehand. That and the lower your weight, the easier time you'll have/less complications. I'd just urge that whatever you do, talk to an OBGYN beforehand (if you're planning).

If a bariatric patient is planning a pregnancy, she needs to wait the 18 months for herself and the baby. After her weight has stabilized, there will be more energy and nourishment that can go to the baby and it will be a safer start for him/her.

That said, early pregnancy is not unheard of, but the mother needs to be seen by a high risk obstetrician, and she should be prepared to put herself 2nd for the duration of the pregnancy. That means she gives up her weight loss goals.

Remember, the first year after the surgery is a special, once in a lifetime, opportunity. A pregnancy in the middle of it is severely unfortunate.

Yeah 18 months minimum here in Scotland and any pregnant woman who has had wls is automatically high risk so consultant led. (No waterbirths, midwife led etc)

I defo know people who have had lapbands and fallen pregnant under a year in, they had to get fills removed and their band shifted due to the baby. NHS denied them a revision as they went against the protocol and risked it.

My wife's doctor told her 18 months as well.
I am sure it is not only for mom's health but for the baby as well.
Do not want to risk any complications.
The sad part is, we are getting old and we want another baby.
She is hoping to be sleeved in May.
So then 18 months from then, we will both be close to 40 by then.

Talk to your surgeon and get their advice. I'm a bypass patient but mine cleared me to start trying at the 1 year mark because I have lost 100% of my excess weight and am eating enough calories and Protein to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I recommend highly that you talk to your dr.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
