Kickstarting weight loss after 2 years of maintenance

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have had a lot of success with my bypass (revision from lap band). I successfully lost 30kg (66lbs) in the first 6 months post op, and I am proud to say I have maintained my loss for the last two years.

I am looking to lose the last 10-15kg (22-33lbs) and I am struggling. To be perfectly honest, I feel like I've learned how to 'cheat' the bypass and what foods I can eat to not feel like I'm on a diet, but also not gain weight. I've been doing it for so long now, that any sort of restriction in calories or intake feels like a diet (which I haven't done in so long!) that I'm struggling to stay on track.

Is there any advice for someone like me? I don't have a whole lot to lose compared to what I've done already so I want to go slow and steady.

Thanks in advance!

Amy

I gained on purpose because I didn't look good for me, it was aging. However, although I'm fairly happy where I am, I cannot afford to gain any more.

I'm looking to play with around 7-10lbs but finding it difficult.

Only thing I think is, now you are this far out, you are like any person trying to lost weight now. We can still really on some restriction to some degree and if you are like me, dumping syndrome to keep the baddies at bay.

i understand how to let things slide too....

Keep up the Protein first, good carbs next and sauces to a minimum...

Protein first, 3 meals 2-3 small Snacks, protein every meal, reduce sugar, drink 30 mins after meal not with and no alcohol... what we did the first year.. But we learn the tricks on how to cheat! Like I could live off carbs but I'll gain weight and won't lose. Oh and exercise 30 mins daily. I'm with you I want to lose some more and I know I've been developing bad habits! :(

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
