Hey yall, I'm actually from the Michigan area but due to my success with the sleeve so far, my sister in law is really interested in having it. She lives in the Charlotte area (university district) and asked me to help her find some great Dr.'s she could go to. I don't know the area at all so I figured I'd start with you guys. So far I picked up a Dr. Ryan Heider... if there are any other suggestions, reputable health systems, Bariatric surgeons, centers of excellence in the charlotte area Please share. I'm hoping to have some info for her by the end of the week so she can start the process soon. Thanks!

I live in Charlotte and connected with Dr. Timothy Kuwada at Carolinas Weight and Wellness Center. I liked working with him, his PA, and the entire team at the Center. There are other surgeons in the group who I believe would be equally as good, however, each has their own bedside manner "style." The team was great about scheduling the various appointments in combinations to help cut down on a patient's time away from work or the number of trips to the Center, etc. They were very conscientious about helping to manage all of my appointment times, including any tests done elsewhere away from the Center.

Thank you! I appreciate all feedback. I guess she is asking me to find a Dr. for her in an area that I do live in! But I am an RN and I think she feels like I know what to look for when selecting a health care facility. So I have been looking at the Carolinas Medical Center so far. I will look into the Carolinas weight and wellness center. I want to find a really good and supportive center first and foremost that is convenient for her to get to but will also provide her with the comprehensive care and support that she will need and be conscientious of all the things you mentioned above.

I'm going through Carolinas Weight and wellness center. So far I've had a great experience. I started in December and was approved 3 weeks ago. My surgery is in April. My surgeon is Dr. Gersin. Everyone has been really nice and helpful. All test and appointments have been easily set up and are located at the facility or local hospital. I have also heard great things about a weightloss center in Hickory. I believe is called Catawba Weight Management. I have a couple of friends who have went through them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
