9 days out and in pain

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone was still having any pain over a week out of surgery. In the beginning I was doing well and was only having pain when I went from laying or sitting to standing. Then that even got to where I could tolerate it by day 6. But I went back to work which is a desk job on day 7 and I started doing more stuff around the house. Still only doing liquids but I keep having pains in my right side. It's not a constant pain but it's enough I want pain meds. I'm just afraid that I messed something up.

I think you should check in with your doctor. Going back to work 7 days post op seems a bit early to me. I'm out for 4 weeks but they took my gallbladder out too. Good luck and hoping you feel better soon.

If you are hurting from overdoing it, it's just your body letting you know "hey you over did it". I would take a little more time off and rest.

I was in a lot of pain under one of my incisions at that point. So much so that I was in tears the night before I went back to work because I didn't know how I was going to do it.

Honestly in retrospect I wonder if I was babying it too much because within a day or two I was so much better. By day three - no pain at all - and I have a super active job.

So in my case - I think that actually moving helped to speed along the healing.

That said - it's always a good idea - especially that soon after surgery - to give the office a call and see what they say.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
