When and how did you know that you no longer needed your CPAP? Since my surgery I have had a ton of energy (had the pressure lowered due to dry mouth) but for the last week or so I feel tired during the day. I am just wondering if maybe I don't need my CPAP anymore? I have an appointment with my sleep doctor on 23 March and I know he had talked about doing a sleep study since I haven't had one done in about 7 years or so.

I stopped about 4 weeks after surgery. I hated it anyway, and kept trying to sleep without it, till I no longer was snoring or getting poor sleep due to breathing.

Everyone is different, based on the severity of their issues. My son still needs it, even after loosing 80 lbs.

have someone moniter your snoring or stopping breathing during sleep. have the sleep study. often as we lose weight the fat in our necks also reduces and most of the time folks can stop the machines. Im not a dr but I have heard that we should not stop them on our own as the poor breathing and poor sleep can lead to heart problems down the line. good luck to you

I think the textbook correct answer would be to have another sleep study. Wait until your weight loss has been at least to the point you were when you were diagnosed (or first became symptomatic) with OSA. It's an expensive study so you don't want to do it too soon. When your numbers normalize without CPAP, you can be sure you may safely discontinue.

I love my CPAP. I probably don't need it anymore, but it's become a safety blanket for me.

I know they have to lower the pressure (again) as my mouth is really dry in the morning. I also need to see about getting something different in terms of a mask. I have to pull the straps pretty tight so that it doesn't leak and now the bridge of my nose hurts. If I have to keep using it maybe I need to look into getting a nasal pillow. We will have to see what the doctor says later this month.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
