Meritan Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have Meritan insurance through my wife's employer.

I believe they are owned by BCBS.

We live in AZ.

The weight loss center said we have to do a 6 month waiting period working with a dietician and regular weigh ins.

I asked the lady in charge of the insurance and billing portion of the weight loss clinic if there is any way around that?

She said that you can write a letter to the company but it is usually not successful.

My thing is, I am in pretty bad shape as it is.

My BMI is 56, I have HBP, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, chronic fatigue, chronic joint pain.

I would like to think they could make an exception.

If not, I won't be getting surgery until August at the soonest.

Any thoughts?

Or suggestions?

Only advice I have is to get started NOW working on your 6 months of supervised dieting. I also had to do this when I first started my journey last year. The months go by so fast you won't even realize that you've done it.

So you are saying that there is no point in trying to fight it?
Just put in the time?
I saw the surgeon and team last month, so the ball is rolling.
It just makes me angry that they make us wait.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
