PCP is not on board anymore

Recommended Posts

Hi Ronnie are you doing tge 6mos diet for insurance approval? Also does you insurance require a letter from your PCP? Im asking because Im also doing a 6mos diet for approval, and I finished my 5 appt yesterday and they said after my next appt thats it. They will send paperwork for approval. I was told a letter from your PCP is good but not a requirement. I have BCBS Anthem

Hey, my insurance requires 4 months for the diet and Friday will be last visit. The letter from the PCP is required also for my insurance approval. I'm going to call the weight management office to see what options I have.

I am doing my medical weight mgmt through the Dr who is going to do the surgery. Hopefully you don't need to start over, but should you maybe taking that route is an option.

I hope that's an option for me. Good luck on your journey!

I have HS, too. That is one of the big reasons why I want this surgery. I hope you get approved.

Same here and I hope you get approved as well. Have you started the process already?

Yes. I have been approved. My insurance didn't require a letter from my PCP. I told my surgeon about my HS, and he didn't seem concerned. I'm scheduled for Feb 28 and just started pre-op diet yesterday.

Wow so sorry to hear this, would have been nice if your PCP came to this conclusion sooner. Why not try getting the letter from your GYN since they would have your medical history(weight) too. Good luck!

Any updates?

I had to add another month weigh in. My surgeon said she will speak to me on Friday about my options. I made an appointment to see my gyn and with another PCP for the end of this month just in case. Still trying to be optimistic about it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
