Recommended Posts

OP I'm sorry! I hope you can get your levels back up and feeling better soon. It took courage to share this. All the best to you.

Chewable Vitamins can be great.
Just want to say that Nascobal offers both pills to swallow and chewable. I talk about nascobal a lot on here but partially because it makes my life so much easier and helps me get my vitamins. Also only 25 dollars a month for me because it is a prescription.

Does Nascobal offer chewy bites?

No fun feeling so bad! I think this experience right here is a great reason to have the surgery. You almost have no choice. Your new body will only allow you to be slack for a short time and then it will kick you in the rear. You are forced to do what is right or you will end up in the hospital. Without the surgery, we would just have our pity party, feel crappy, and then just go back to bad habits. I learned some very valuable lessons after my surgery with being very sick. I purposely choose wisely everyday so I won't experience that pain or sickness again!! You are stronger then you think, so look at an old photo at your worst and remind yourself how amazing you are and then get back on track!!

I'm 3wks post op and I forget to drink... I can't stand the taste of Water or artificial sweetener.. Don't know what I'm going to do [emoji53]
Thanks for the advice...

I was the exact same. I drank OJ mixed with water just to get fluids in. I did this until I could drink water again. One thing that you may want to try is freezing water and then drinking it as it melts. That is how I drink water now, anything else makes me nauseous.

try lots of things to get the Water down. I will mix Water and crystal light half and half. try infused water with fruits and veggies. Protein water is great but I also do it half and half as sometime the Protein taste is too much. like with any new habit it will be hard at first but just keep forcing it. sip sip sip. it will only take one time of have to be hospitalized with de hydration to let you know how important this one is. good luck to you

@danaymacklin they have the swallow ones, if you are far enough out from surgery.
@soyounique a lady in my support group swears by the true citrus flavor packets - sugar free. I haven't tried it but she loves them and she can't stand artificial sweeteners. They have a few flavors.@martha Parker McNeal had some great advice too.

Hopefully you can find something that works for you to.

I keep thinking about some advice about taking the Iron supplements that helped me. The iron supplements can be tough on anyone's GI tract.
Start slowly. The supplement I take is three pills. Start with one pill and day, if all goes well over a couple of weeks, increase it by the next pill. It took me a little while.

Always take it with food, but something without Calcium, like a cracker.

If possible give an hour before taking calcium supplement or eating something with calcium.
Or 2 hours after eating/taking calcium.

While it isn't a really big deal, it gives your body the best chance to absorb stuff. The iron and the calcium compete for absorption.

That is what you have to do sometimes. I couldn't stand Water for the longest and that included smart water but then I found out I liked Fiji water. So artesian water for whatever reason was all I could drink. Also, I couldn't stand Protein shakes because they are too thick, but I found out I like Protein Drinks from nectar. You will just have to keep trying.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
