1st support group meeting today

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. So later today I have my first support group meeting that's required my insurance to have before I can actually have my surgery. Was anyone else nervous like I am? What should I expect? Anyone else passed this stage already?

Can't speak for the US version of support groups but I was defo nervous for mine as lots rest on how well you react on the diet your placed on over the 8 weeks.

4*2 hour classes, weighed at each one and they take you through all aspects of diet, life skills, surgery and also during this time you will see surgeon who has last say on surgery. If they say no, you are screwed.

Best advice I can give is make a list of questions, no question is stupid and be prepared to be under very strict guidelines.

I'm on 3rd class, passed medical and endoscopy and approved by surgeon so just waiting on date.

Good luck from Scotland

Hey & ? that is a lot. Here my insurance is only requiring 1 support group visit to have the surgery, but they said the more you attend the better it will be for you.

Im just not ready to be fully exposed to answering questions out loud which is an other reason I joined here to kind of help me come out my shell some.

I'm glad you received your approval & best wishes to you??

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
