Hey there! I hadn't had surgery before getting banded either, and I of course was nervous, but after the first few days I was moving around pretty normal.

One thing to keep in mind is that your abs do a ton of work for you! I, having been overweight since I was 2, didn't know that I had many abs to speak of--this surgery really opened my eyes. Sitting up, coughing, moving even the tiniest bit...it's all influenced by the abs, and since they are cut during surgery, they all hurt like the dickens for a while :cry

Note: pain killers are your friends!!! Take your meds as your doctor recommends, and don't try to go without. Once I learned that being a hero wasn't helping anyone--especially myself--I was much better off :)

crazy, but that is my biggest concern also. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 11, and if it wasn't for the fear of anesthesia I would be great..

Hi

I'm 4 days post-op and I can honestly say the surgery went fine, the pain level has not been bad at all , I had 3 c-sections and I just swore the pain would be like that but I hasen't been, I know everyones pain level is differant but if you ask me I'M A BIG BABY WHEN IT COMES TO PAIN. When I first woke up from sugery about 11:30am the nurse asked what my pain level was and I said a 7 so I got a good dose of pain meds and before they discharged me I asked if I could get more pain med and that was around 2:30pm. I just keep taking my pain med every 4 hrs so there would be no pain. I am looking forward to Tuesday when I can start mushy food.< /p>

I havent seen anyone on this site as young as i am, so of course im beginning to second guess my decision! ( something i ALWAYS do). Im going through this whole process on my own(including payment... AH!) so it is kind of hard to keep telling myself im doing the right thing by getting surgery. I just keep coming on the site and seeing all of the great results. Well good luck to all you you guys!!

Good evening "banders"!

I am new to this website, so be patient with me. I am scheduled to have my band surgery on October 2, 2007. I am so nervous! I don't know what to expect. My biggest question is what was the pain level right after surgery?

This is the first time I have ever had to go under the knife so, I am a little scared! I have been on my post-op diet going on two weeks now, and ready to DO THIS!! I am ready for my life to change! Just some support or advice would help! HELP! :help:

Pain is an individual thing. I took all the painkillers and it wasn't too bad.

i had my surgery on tuesday and i have to say that pain was not a big issue. discomfort...definitely...but i think i took 3 pain pills since the surgery including when i was in the hospital. i was planning to go home but everyone convinced me to stay overnite and i am glad i did. i had no nausea and my gas pain was medium. the most important thing is to walk. i walked a bunch in the hospital and i am taking at least 1 or 2 decent walks outside. today i walked for 35 minutes.

the weirdest thing for me is that feeling of not knowing if what i am feeling is ok or if something is wrong. i keep calling my cousin to check because she had lap band 2 years ago.

good luck. you will do fine. and don't think about cheating because this is about the gift you are finally giving yourself. at least that helps for me.:)

i talked to my doctor before surgery about my fear of getting sick and puking from the anesthesia, i was assured that i would not get sick. they gave me great drugs and i didnt get sick or nauseated.... i had very little discomfort, i didnt need pain meds. but, i was told by my doctor that the pain meds actually help you to recover and heal faster.

Like others said - everyone is different but I had almost no pain at all. I felt a burning sensation on my stomach when I was in the hospital. By the time I got home, it was gone and I never needed anything other than liquid Tylenol. I was amazed.

I was sore for a few days - like I had done a million crunches. I had some gas pains on days 3-5 but they weren't even that bad. You have to move around A LOT.

I'm sure you'll do fine! You'll have someone with you, right? Having my boyfriend right there when I woke up, really helped me feel at ease.

Well, Lauren, I am one of the oldest people on this site. I will be 59 in October. I just got my band on August 27th. Just look at it this way; do it now instead of when you are 59 like me. Of course, if they had perfected the lapband like it is now, I would have done it 10 years ago. Oh, who am I kidding???? Ten years ago, I was trying to loose this weight. As far as the pain goes; I have had several surgeries, all pretty major. This was a walk in the park compared to the knee replacement and the hip replacement. All of that was caused by my weight. So, in my book, you are making the right decision.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
