Starting my journey

Recommended Posts

I just had my 1st appointment on the 3rd of this month!! I am going to have my ultrasound tomorrow having a hard time finding someone to do a psych eval but the doctor didn't say anything about Protein Shakes? When do you start pre op? At this point I'm still 3 months out before I could schedule my surgery.

Pre-op is typically 1-4 weeks before surgery, so if you're 3 months out you've still got a ways. But there's no better time to start acclimating yourself to the habits you'll have to adopt post-op!

Thank you!! I just started my process I'm excited but really nervous I feel like everyone I've told has tried to talk me out of it except for my husband he is supporting my decision.

You will come across lots of posts where others have had the same experience! There always seems to be at least one or two people who will do that. My boyfriend's mom tried that with me and I shot it down by simply just not telling her anything past asking her to watch our dog while I had it done. My boyfriend was that way at first until I had him do his own research and added him to a Facebook support group for my surgeon and he got to see all the posts from the past and present patients. He came around rather quickly. Mostly, just keep it in your head you're doing it for you and your health. Screw anyone else who can't get behind you getting healthy.

Hello I start my first class with kaiser February 23rd. Are we supposed to request the psychological evaluation as well as the endoscopy? Or how does that work?

I'm not sure how it works I don't have to take a class I just went in for a consultation. My Doctor there told me what the requirements my insurance had and gave me the referrals I needed since I have HMO.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
