Pregnant W/Morning Sickness

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I'm four months pregnant and my all day sickness is killing me! In my other pregnancies I dranked Ginger Ale. I have not had carbonated drinks since being banded. I read the whole debate over it, and most say they drink diet after the fiz is gone, but with morning sickness I think the fiz is the point. From the discussion I get that soadas don't harm the band. but I have read that some suffer fron awful gas.

Any advice?

Can we PLEASE get a pregnancy board?

Ah, I feel your pain. I had horrible morning sickness all 3 pregnancies. I had my band the last pregnancy. I drank the Ginger ale with no problems and it wasn't flat. I would suggest just testing a couple of sips and see how it sits with you.

Good Luck!

Hi Kabeerah, Ramadan Kareem :)

Wow, still having morning sickness at 4 months?? That sucks! Have you tried sea-bands? They are little bracelets that press on accupuncture points for nausea. They're great on boat trips as well as for morning sickness. They also make these ginger containing candies called Prenancy Pops. I know a lot of women swear by them. You could also make a warm ginger tea by using fresh ginger root.

Peel a 2 inch piece of ginger and slice it into thin slices. Add it to boiling Water, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes or so. Strain the tea and sweeten it with honey or sugar. You can also add lemon.

Here's formal instructions: How to Make Ginger Tea or Tisane - wikiHow

As for the ginger ale, most ginger ale these days doesn't have any real ginger in it.. so it could be the carbonation that is having the effect. I'd sip small amounts and see how your band tolerates it. I know that when I have a lot of restriction, the carbonated beverages don't sit well with me.

thanks everyone, i have no restriction even though i have not been unfilled. i lost my initial restriction 6 months after surgury and haver had about 5 fills since then that have done nothing for me. i'll try sipping the inger ale if i can find any. also thanks for the ginger tea recipe, i already had it in mind but didn't have a recipe.

You could make ginger tea if ginger really helps you?

I drank a lot of very very cold soda Water, which of course is fizzy, that really quelled my nausea all 3 pregnancies.

During my last pregnancy I had much worse MS - I used seabands on my wrists and they did help. I can also remember seeing a product called Preggy Pops online from the US, lollypops that contain homeopathic remedies.

You have my sympathy, morning sickness is foul.

My doc said that after six months of being banded I could have 1/2 of a diet soda and it wouldn't stretch the pouch or anything. My six months is up in about three weeks and I'm DYING for a Diet Coke. It's been a long time. Love the prego board as I will be TTC at the end of the year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
