3 1/2 months post op ulcer

Recommended Posts

:( found out just before Christmas that I had an ulcer. Had 6 week follow up endo and it's still there, a bad one, and worse than it was 6 weeks ago even on the highest doses anti ulcer meds. Anyone have any experience?

I am looking at bypass revision in a week or so. They will make my pouch smaller and remove my left over stomach :(

Help.

You will be a-ok! Even if they had to take out the whole stomach (which they won't...I'm just worse case scenario-ing)... you'd be fine. No worries!

Good luck!

Ok, just ignore what I said , I didn't realize they were taking it all out. [Opened mouth, inserted foot]. I really meant worst by meaning the most stomach to be removed, not worst from a health standpoint!

Someone else on this board had the same procedure, and was happy with the result, because once it healed, there were no more ulcers!

[Hugs] .. didn't mean to sound like your procedure was gonna be bad!

I had an ulcer to. Very lucky mine is gone now. Between that and gluten intolerance I could hardly eat anything. How do you usually get an ulcer? Worry. My dad had one bad when I was a kid without any surgery... try to relax.

Usually it's alcohol, smoking, or NSAIDS. I did none of those, they don't know why.

Just found out today I have an ulcer also. That's what they say they saw on CT Scan. Years ago I had an ulcer and I don't remember it being like this. My stomach hurts right at the breast bone and the pain radiates under my ribs and then through my chest and ends under my left shoulder blade. It's so tender to the touch that I was crying when the dr pressed on the area that was hurting. I'm just not sure this is an ulcer and I'm scared cause I can think of what it could be

I'm so sorry. Take the meds religiously. They tried to get mine to heal for 6 weeks before surgery was the plan. The constant contracting pain is the hardest part for me. And I struggle to eat anything and when it started at 2 month post op I was doing great. I got to where I could eat anything with no issues. I'm living of milk with Protein Powder and yogurt now :/

Good luck. Feel free to pm me! My bypass revision is scheduled for Monday 2/20.

Erin. Good luck with your surgery. I'm bout the same as you. I was doing great. Was able to eat anything but watching portions then this pain started. Was your stomach painful to the touch and did it hurt to swallow? Even when I take a sip of Water it feels like I'm swallowing rocks. Hope this passes very soon

Yes. It was tender to the touch. Not some much anymore on carafate and omeprazole.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
