I'm from BC and waited and recently had surgery in province paid for my provincial healthcare after a long wait. There have been recent news reports of people returning here with complications. Life is full of risk, to each their own.

If you do your homework it's fine. A lot of them are even American trained doctors, (if your a good Doctor your good, it doesn't matter where you were born) Healthcare is a universal language. There's Mexican doctors I'd prefer over any in Canada, there's always "bad Doctors" if you find a clinic with hundreds of positive reviews , find these people chat in person or email(they are real) they've had great experiences. Just don't pick out one running deals and without doing your homework. The risk is still there in Canada or the USA.(not be naive) remember a lot of our North American Doctors study abroad . My Cousins husband studied a semester in Jamaica , it's normal. So does that make him an unsafe practitioner. Just food for thought. Also Thailand has some pretty awesome doctors too!

Dr. Ortiz from the OCC? I'll be there at the same time. I'm from BC.

Apparently there are 2 different Dr. Ortiz's - one at A Lighter Me and one at OCC. I'm having my surgery done on April 17 with the Dr. Ortiz at OCC ;)

Yes, two Dr. Ortiz's just to confuse things!

I'll let you know how things go! I'll be a month out when you head down.

Hello, I'm new to this :)

I don't know where to start.

I am from Ontario and don't want to wait for 2 years.

Is there some Medical Insurance that I should buy before the surgery?

How is the flight back after the surgery?

Maybe someone can share some logistic information?

Thank you so much!!!

I got a direct flight home from mexico. I went alone, my husband stayed with the kids at home in Alberta. The flight is easy, we were all out shopping the day before we left Mexico. You tire out easier, so id try for a direct flight or at least 1 stop only. Everyone in our group felt fine we met in the hotel Lobby and chatted everyday. For all of us , it was pretty smooth sailing. I went to the OCC (obesity control centre) I met a lot of people who were sleeved already at the OCC And were coming as companions to their friends and family, none of them had issues either.

The van picks you up at the Airport and drives you home, basically like a taxi. By the time I called for an appointment to getting my surgery was 3.5 weeks. I was sleeved March 23,2017.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
