I've read that it's normal for some people to stall when they start puréed foods, but now it's been 8 days for me!!! I'm so discouraged and the worry is starting to set in that maybe my scale will never move! Grrr:( Has anyone else had a lengthy stall? Any advice or helpful tips?

Yes, I have had over an 8 day stall more than once. I am currently 13 weeks post op. I have had quite a few stalls over the past several weeks, and of course, they all have passed and I started losing weight again.

I know that it can sometimes feel discouraging when you are doing everything right and the scale won't move for days on end!

Just keep on doing the good that you are doing, get your Protein and liquids and it will pass! I just got through my stalls with the hope of knowing that it would pass and the scale would eventually move again.

Also, if you aren't already doing it, track what you eat with myfitnesspal. Keep an eye on your carbs, if you eat too many carbs, it can have a negative effect on your weight loss.

I lost 10lbs the week after surgery. I am now in the 3rd week, and haven't lost anything for the last 2 weeks! I actually gained 2 lbs, and lost them back, but haven't gone down since my 1 week post op. I am going to weigh myself this weekend, and expect to see a drop on the scale. This happens, and is necessary for your body to repair itself and get used to each new stage that you are in. I am not freaking out about it yet, but if I go another couple weeks without losing anything, I will probably start to get anxious about it.

At 4+ months post-op, I have had several stalls. My pre-op weight loss (99 pounds during my six-month pre-op diet program) was quite linear (3 pounds per week on average). My post-op weight loss (almost 70 additional pounds since surgery on September 28) is more like a step function. My body sheds 8-10 pounds in a week or so, then I stay the same for 1-1.5 weeks. Then the cycle repeats. I liked the pre-op linear weight loss much better, but I accepted a long time ago that the post-op journey was going to be different.

Can you tell that I do math for a living?? :-)

If you find it too discouraging, just weigh once per week. That will help your sanity.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies! It helps me stay in the right frame of mind! I know it should eventually drop, but it does get me discouraged after a lengthy stall. This new world is full of ups and downs, isn't it?! Thanks everyone!!

It helped me to know that it is physically impossible for you to fill your stomach with enough calories to gain weight. You are eating nothing. You would have to drink liquid lard to gain weight right now and even then it would be hard to do. Ignore the scale. Good luck :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
