Post-op Shopping trip ! please help me

Recommended Posts

Ok, here's what I did, go and buy a crap load of different Protein Shakes. Go to GNC or something like that and just get a bunch of them. Because what you liked before may not be the same after. Make sure to get some that is like chicken Soup as well. You will want sweet and savory. It's important to fulfill both flavor profiles for cravings.

Get a few different types of bottled Water, again, the same reason. Get your crystal lights, your flavored waters.

Get Gas-x strips to help get the gas out post surgery, get liquid Tylenol as you can't take pills for 12 weeks post op (or I couldn't at least), get Prilosec or Previcid - whatever antacids your doc recommends (call now and find out so you can just stock up. Ask when you can take and how).

Make sure to get the items on your approved diet list for the first two weeks or so, that way you have options.

Good luck! This is an interesting and life changing journey, The first steps are not easy so please try to not get too discouraged in the first month post surgery. You most-likely won't drop much right away because your body is in shock and healing. Try to keep in mind the first few weeks are about recuperating and recovery, not weightloss. Good luck again and congratulations!

Unjury medical Protein Powder is some pretty great stuff....pretty tasty.

They're relatively inexpensive for powdered Protein and they also have an unflavored powder that you can mix into anything as well as a chicken broth flavor to break up the sweet drinks.< br>Bonus is that they offer a sample pack of two packets of every flavor that they offer with a shaker for like 25 bucks if you're interested in trying it. So far, this is the winner for me!!

Bad thing is that they only sell online. Just google it and try it out :) best of luck to you in your journey!!
Just got out of surgery yesterday...it's all good!!

I'm getting sleeved on 2/16 Im going shopping for after surgery. Any tips or advice is helpful

What should I buy drinks & or food for after surgery ?? Anything you couldn't be without ?

BariatricPal App

I made sure i had my Protein drinks. GNC has a program where if you dont like the flavor or whatever about it, you can get a refund. I tried a few different kinds of broth. I found a chicken and beef one i liked. I dont know why, but my opinion is that the broth was so much easier to get down than plain Water. I also got sugar free popsicles - one of my faves because it takes time to have and wasnt too much liquid for me. Another thing i cant seem to go without is the sugar free Water flavor things. Those things have gotten me through my 16 days post-op. Find things you can have and find what you like.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
