Berry78 4,261 Posted February 7, 2017 Ok, so you go to Mexico to get the procedure done, but there are complications and you need to stay in the hospital longer than the package provides. How are these additional bills handled?Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
Berry78 4,261 Posted February 7, 2017 Where is my question? I was asking what happens if a complication arises, who pays the bill...Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
Daja 48 Posted February 7, 2017 Your insurance should pay the bill. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

James Marusek 5,244 Posted February 7, 2017 I am lost on this one! Many people go to Mexico for surgery because their health insurance doesn't cover the surgery. So Mexico can be a lower cost option. So if complications arise, how is this funded? This is a very good question. There are a number of individuals on this website that have had surgery in Mexico. I am sure they could provide you their experiences.
MissKay 329 Posted February 8, 2017 Chances are your US insurance will NOT pay the bill. I had this concern, and while most don't have this happen, I wanted to be safe rather than sorry. I bought travel health insurance that would cover it in case something happened. For 2 weeks coverage I only paid $20. While it was technically a 'waste' because I didn't need it, I was okay shelling out $20 for peace of mind just in case something did happen. 2 sweesee and Berry78 reacted to this
GBLady41 393 Posted February 8, 2017 I had mini gastric bypass in Mexico with BariatricPal TeamMX and asked about this and was told that if any complications happen either at the hospital or the hotel, taking care of the complication is already included in the Medical Tourism package cost. 1 Berry78 reacted to this
