I'll be having rny in less then 8 weeks and from what im reading my already heavy cycle will get worse after surgery, so my question is what remedy's have you ladies tried to help with your cycle? I'm 31 and still want another child so nothing permanent.... I've been looking into lysteda also known as transexamic acid anyone ever try it? And how did it work for you?

Did gastric sleeve, not rny, in my case, my cycle was messed up the first 2 months only, after that it stabilised and it's heavy the first 2 days (normal for me) but instead of it lasting 6 days, I'm now done in 4-5 days. Other than that , things are back to normal.

I've used trans acid before and it does work but it's not really designed for long term use.

I have a Nexplanon implant which controls mine since I have PCOS and haven't had a full period yet, just spotting. If you do get heavy periods I suggest looking into BC as its the easiest way to control them.

The implant, coil and pill are best but Depo has links to DVT according to research.

Yes I'm on BC now and it does not seem to make much a difference for me unfortunately and all the other IUDs are not a good fit being as though I do plan to have another kid within 5 years but thank you for you input I'm hoping the tranexamic works for me too.

I had the sleeve surgery May 29, 2016. I had not gotten my period for about 5 years before surgery. After surgery I started getting it about every 2 weeks and it would last between 3-5 days. I have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome though. I have been on the same BC the entire time. Since I had to stop BC for a month before and after surgery I started growing cysts again. My GYN thinks this may have something to do with my abnormal periods. They are just now starting to even out.

I recommend the IUD. It's the most effective, has a low rate of complication, and you can take it out any time with a simple office visit when you & your partner decide you're ready for another child (and no waiting period to let your hormones regulate like with BC). I have Mirena and between that and PCOS, I have not had a regular period in years. It's awesome lol. Mirena is known to lighten or stop periods. The medical literature included with the IUD said it's only about 20% of people but literally everyone I know who has Mirena has had lighter or no periods, so YMMV.

I don't recommend the copper IUD if you already have a heavy flow b/c it's known to make periods and cramps worse.

I've always steered away from IUDs due to fear but I will definitely look into it this time thanks.

I had bad symptoms from the Mirena IUD. I think I'm the exception and not the majority though. I had bad cramps, spotted irregularly (had to always wear panty liner), started getting acne in my back (yucky). It's covered under most insurance companies and if your body reacts well to it, it's very convenient... they say most symptoms go away after a few months. I had mine 2 years and they never went away. Not sure why I didn't have it removed sooner. Ha. Goodluck to you.

You might be surprised to find out that your cycle changes, but not always in a bad way. My periods were always super heavy floods where I literally had to use depends and sit on a stack of towels at home to prevent leaking everywhere. Since RNY, my cycle lightened up quite a bit and instead of my old 32 day cycle it dropped down to 26 days, which may explain why it's lighter, but it's definitely much improved. I didn't do anything special to try to improve it though, just got lucky.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
