Physical, EKG, blood work, things to do before surgery?

Recommended Posts

So my doctor had me take some blood work before the surgery. But that is it! I've heard other surgeons have had EKG is done and all kinds of other things done before going into surgery I'm worried that maybe my Surgeon isn't doing enough? What are some requirements given by your surgeon that have to be done so they know you are ready for surgery?

It really depends on your personal health. I had labwork, chest x-ray, barium swallow and upper GI endoscopy done, but that was because of my personal issues. Of course, there was the psych screen too, but that's required of everyone treated in my group. Your profile doesn't indicate your age -- if you are young and relatively healthy (other than obesity) (s)he may not feel the need to do anything else. I'm 55 with a history of a variety of medical conditions.
