i now have to meet with a different surgeon

Recommended Posts

my surgeon needs two people in order to become certified in maine seeming how he is new here and he only has me right now that wants the band, he said that he is meeting with someone in october who wants the band but there is no guarentee. he wants me to meet with the other doctor in the same practice to see if she can get me in sooner. i was suppose to see her in the beginning but chose not to because i heard that she was difficult and also preferred the bypass. now she is my only option if i want to see someone here. in the end i may have the choice of who i want but talk about overwhelming ill have to pick which doctor i want to do the surgery. im not feeling to good about my options right now. i guess ill just have to meet with her and see how it goes. wish me luck

All I can say is DO NOT SELECT A DOCTOR WITHOUT A SOLID TRACK RECORD IN THE BAND!!!!!!! Don't know how that can be stressed enough. Don't be someone's guinea pig. Even if you have to travel somewhere else to find one. Do NOT go to someone who hasn't done a LOT of lapbands already. You're leaving yourself wide open for disaster.

Must be something about Maine as I think we just had this same conversation. You may want to do a search on Maine as it was a long and extended thread.

I do not know now many times I can write this or in how many threads....

GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!!!!!!!!!

This is not worth the aggravation and emotional toll it is obviosuly taking on you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
