VSG and Mono

Recommended Posts

Greetings, friends. I'm 5 weeks post op and was diagnosed with mono yesterday. Has anyone else experienced mono after surgery? I have no appetite, so I've been living off ice chips and low-cal orange juice. The doctor gave me antibiotics and they seem to be working, but how in the world are we supposed to keep our immune system up if we lack an appetite?

Mono was the worst thing that ever happened to me. It took me a year to recover. But with these tips, you'll be just fine!

- Wash your hands allllllll the time, you don't want a small virus to tear up your immune system when you already have mono.

- Eat sherberts or "iced" Protein Shake. Take a ice tray, pour Water and like an Ensure. When they are turned into ice, break them so you can suck on the chips.

- Let cereals sit in a bowl with a little milk/almond milk or even water. When you don't hurt too much, eat a small small dose. It's mushy but it will help.

- Sip on broths.

- Listerine everyyyyything in your mouth. If it hurts too much, abandon it. If it feels better after (gets the throat numb) you might even want to try with water and cayenne pepper.

- Don't overdo it! If you can't eat much, you sleep through that shit. Just sleep, rest, sleep, rest and then sleep. It took me a whole month of this.

- Take your medications and take advils or tylenol by your... bum. Ask for professional advice first.

You are going to be fine. Take it easy. Start a new show. Have some rest. You take care of yourself. [emoji173]️

Continue following your post op diet. Protein is just as important while sick as when not sick! Your Vitamins will help keep your immune system up. Orange juice won't save you (especially by its self). The acidity may be doing a number on your tummy.

sleep, set alarms to tell you when to eat. Drink drink drink.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
