Vitamins & Supplements

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a lot about the different Vitamin and mineral supplements that become necessary after having the Sleeve procedure. Does anyone have a complete list of what will be needed or does that differ for each individual?

Also, are there any supplements that will need to be taken pre-op?

If you have any preferred brands, that info would be appreciated too...thank you!

I was advised to take the following:

Multivitamin twice a day (12 hours apart)
Calichew with with D3 three times a day (Not sooner than 2 hrs after/before the multivitamin)
Vitamin D once daily
In addition I take Vitamin C, Vitamin K and a B12 patch

I took Centrum chewables for the first 6 months, just letting it melt in my mouth. Then I went onto Centrum advantage tablets. I never thought I would get the hang of all the Vitamins but its easy peasy now. Don't even have to think about it.

Don't do what I did. I went out and stocked up on the list given by my doctor. But then found out about patch MD and purchased that only to find out at my 2 week post op, the NUT told me the one multi Vitamin patch was enough. My labs are all good.

I was not allowed to be on Vitamins during my two week pre-op, nor two weeks after. Make sure you know when you doctor wants you to stop all meds and Vitamins.< /p>

Did you notice any loose teeth? They say Calcium is vital for bone density and gum health, and I didn't see any calcium in your post unless it's added elsewhere.

Calichew with with D3 three times a day = Calcium :)

I'm on in since I'm on the two week pre-op & I don't want to be malnourished.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
