Restriction vs. hunger

Recommended Posts

I'm going crazy here. I moved on to soft foods since everyone says that is what made them feel "full". So I made myself a soft scrambled egg. I didn't measure it because it is one regular-sized egg. I was eating way more than that when I was on Protein Shakes and Bone Broth and cream Soups.< /p>

So now, one third of the way through this stupid egg, I feel the restriction.

But I'm still hungry.

I don't think this is "head hunger". I have had that, when I was bored and wanted to snack. I would have to distract myself and move on. But these past few days I swear I am actually hungry again.

Is anyone else going through this, where they feel a restriction, and it would be painful to eat more, but you still don't feel satisfied? I keep reading that people get to soft solids and after a few bites they feel "satisfied".

I get that I shouldn't eat any more. And I also shouldn't drink anything for 30 minutes. But I'm hungry! This is hard. :(

Head hunger can also be when your stomach is full but you still "feel" hungry. Losing the feeling of hunger after this surgery is BS. For the guest 6-8 weeks I felt hungry 30-60 minutes after I'd eat something. I just pushed liquids after I could. I know it sucks, but it will pass. Even now I'll feel hungry at times, but nowhere near as bad.

I experiance head hunger at 20 days post op but I'm having major restriction when eating. Please be careful. It can be very uncomfortable to eat even 1 tiny bite more. I've never vomited but can feel in back up into my throat. Most of the time can't even get 2 oz of food in. I don't know how you feel but can't imagine feeling truly hungry at this point for myself. Best wishes and good luck to you!

OK, I'm going to try to just accept this and cut back on my eating. I don't want to mess this up, but it is so hard.

I did wait 30 minutes after the dumb egg, felt hungry the whole time, then took 2 sips of Protein Water and now suddenly I'm satisfied. WTF?

Hunger and thirst can get confused. Stomach acid can give that feeling. Maybe even putting in something cold or warm could make a difference...

@"anonmom", it is so important to measure and weigh your food. Our minds play tricks on us. I started soft foods 1 week post-op (my surgeon does not require 2 weeks of liquid and then purée before soft). I have measured my food from the day I could start eating soft food, and I have to say that I am so glad I do measure it. I sometimes find that I finish my meal, and then I want to eat a little more. However, when I wait a little bit, and then drink when I am able to, that desire or hunger to eat more goes away. I have never been a person who measures or weighs my food, but I find hat it is mandatory now. We only get this 1 year "honeymoon" period, and I am using it to teach myself to commit to measuring and weighing foods, because obviously, my eyes don't do such a good job with Portion Control.

Our minds sure do play tricks! It is very frustrating to not be able to quiet my mind with either food or alcohol right now. I know that I need this change, though, so I guess I need to just take things one day at a time.

I managed to distract myself from food several times today, I met my liquid/protein goals, and I also managed to stay under 600 calories, so I just need to keep working at this.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
